Kathy Gibson is well known for her mastery of a variety of styles and musical genres. She has performed jazz, standards, pop, opera and musical theatre in every type of venue from pig races to the classroom to the concert stage. A recipient of numerous awards, she was notably the silver medallist at the American Traditions Singing Competition in Savannah, Georgia. Recordings include; The Pink Album , Not Since Prom, (with the Motown Band, Sounds Like Fun),Taking A Chance On Love (with the River City Jazz Ensemble) and I Love A Piano (with Rich Ridenour). She completed two Allied Arts national concert tours with pianist Rich Ridenour to rave reviews. Symphony pops concerts include Midland, Elgin, Ocean City, Eerie, Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, Lafayette and the Bijou Orchestra. Favorite musical theatre roles include Eva Peron (Evita), Velma (Chicago), The Old Lady (Candide), Mama Rose (Gypsy). Kathy was a Grand Award recipient for her outstanding performances as Mrs. Lovett in Sweeny Todd, Mama Rose in Gypsy and Fosca in Passion. She was the featured artist in the LA World Premiere of Love Handles, and So You Wanna Be On Broadway at The Lambs Theatre in New York. As a director/choreographer, credits include Baby, The World Goes Round, I Love you, You're Perfect, Now Change, The Big Bang, Beauty and the Beast and received a special Grand Award for her production of Beehive. She also won a Grand Award for her vocal direction on The Spitfire Grill and nominations for The Rocky Horror Picture Show and A Man of No Importance. Operas include Die Fledermaus (Ida), LaTraviata (Flora), The Merry Widow (Sylvianne) and Candide (The Old Lady). Kathy has opened for The Drifters, The Platters, The Shirelles and Little Anthony. One of her favorite concerts was opening for Bob Newhart to a sold out house in Elgin, Illinois. Kathy has long been swinging tunes with The River City Jazz Ensemble who have performed for the Governor’s Inaugural Ball and 3 past presidents. Her vocal work also encompasses jingles, studio work and award winning compositions. When not performing she teaches voice, traveling the country giving master classes and workshops. Ms. Gibson graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BA in Jazz/Vocal PErformance from Aquinas College. She taught voice for the contemporary music program at Cornerstone University, Aquinas College and is a founding member of the West Michigan Cabaret Association. And she can cook too!
